The protest demanded action against the GVK Contract Management who have not agreed on the wage increase for 2019, that employees with more than one year of work experience should be made permanent, reduction of work hours from 12 hours to 8 hours and a 26-week period of maternity leave for female employees.
The State President of the Union, Irulandi, led the demonstration with protesters raising slogans and urging the Government to fulfill their demands. Later, while addressing the media, the protesters said that the lawful demands of the 108 ambulance drivers who worked day and night tirelessly to serve the public should be fulfilled.
"The GVK EMRI management should be concerned in serving the people rather than forcing the employees to engage in a strike," said the protesters. Coimbatore District President Poiyamozhi, Secretary Guna and others also took part in the protest.
