The Nilgiris : In a tragic incident, a mother and daughter allegedly committed suicide at the Ooty Boat House lake on Tuesday.
Since Nirmala (35) and her daughter Harini (6) who were residents of the Nondimedu area on Ooty-Coonoor road had been missing for over a day, their kin had filed a complaint on Tuesday evening.
This morning, when the Ooty Boat House staff were clearing garbage from the lake, they were shocked to find two bodies floating on the surface of the lake. They immediately informed the police who retrieved the corpses and sent them for autopsy. After the relatives had identified the deceased, the police confirmed that the bodies were indeed that of Nirmala and Harini. Initial investigation suggests that the recent demise of her husband could have prompted Nirmala to take the extreme step. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
