Saranya (37), a resident of Periyanaickenpalayam was on her way back home after visiting a relative in Keeranatham. While she was crossing a TASMAC near Athipalayam, an inebriated policeman reportedly stopped her and used sleazy words to verbally abuse her. Shocked by his behaviour, Saranya walked away quickly and hid herself in a fancy store in the area, and also informed her husband, Ravikumar, about the incident over the phone. Meanwhile, the policeman approached the shop and continued his verbal harassment.
The public who witnessed the sordid behaviour of the policeman held him and handed him over to the Periyanaickenpalayam police station. Later, a case was registered against him at the Kovilpalayam police station. The erring policeman was identified as the car driver of SP, Sujit Kumar. After hearing of his uncouth behaviour, the SP suspended him with immediate effect.
