Ooty vegetable prices soar on Onam eve

The Nilgiris : As Onam is being celebrated tomorrow by the Malayali people, there is a considerable rise in prices of the English vegetables produced in and around Ooty.


The Nilgiris : As Onam is being celebrated tomorrow by the Malayali people, there is a considerable rise in prices of the English vegetables produced in and around Ooty.



Every year, the vegetables produced in Ooty are largely exported to Kerala during the Onam season.

As it is vegetables including carrot, potato, radish, cabbage and cucumber are being to sent to Kerala from the local wholesale markets in Ooty.



The hike in whole sale prices of carrot is put at Rs.40-Rs.45 from the earlier Rs. 30.

"The retail prices would be up to rs.55 per kg" traders said Prices of potatoes have also shot up from Rs. 40 to Rs. 50.

"The produce of vegetables have affected due to the heavy rains last month, which also contributed to the price rise" the traders said.
