The Nilgiris : The Nilgiris district administration has installed a plastic bottle shredder at the entrance of the Government Botanical Gardens in Ooty which will crush plastic bottles.
The shredded plastic will then be used with plant waste to produce compost for plants in the Botanical Garden. This has garnered widespread appreciation from both locals and tourists.
The Nilgiris district administration had earlier come down heavily on the usage of beverages and water in plastic bottles. Hence, along with other initiatives to keep plastic away from the district, the administration also implemented the installation of the plastic bottle shredder machine in crowded tourists spots in Nilgiris, especially in Ooty.
