According to experts, suicide is considered one of the top three causes of death among youth worldwide. According to the WHO, almost one million people die from suicide every year, and 20 times more people attempt suicide.
“Suicide is nevertheless a private and personal act and a wide disparity exists in the rates of suicide across different countries. A greater understanding of region-specific factors related to suicide would enable prevention strategies to be more culturally sensitive” said Dr A.Jayasudha, Principal of the college
“World Suicide Prevention Day is being observed for more than 15 years now, and the theme the PSG College of Nursing came up with is "Working together to prevent suicide" this year” she observed.
“The awareness campaign will be continued for a month and until October 10” .the organizers said.
The management and students of the college created awareness through the distribution of pamphlets and psychoeducation to patients and family in the outpatient area of the Psychiatric department in PSG Hospitals on the occasion.
The principal of the College Dr A.Jayasudha, faculty members from Psychiatric Nursing Department and Internship students took part in the World Suicide Prevention Day programme.
