Vicky, a college student from Ramanathapuram district who studies in a private college here in Coimbatore and lives with his friends in a rented house at Saravanampatti, was driving along with four of his friends. They were headed for his brother's wedding to be held in Mettupalayam.
While the vehicle was overspeeding past the four corner junction in Then Tirupati, Vicky lost control and rammed into a wayside shop where tender coconuts and onions were being sold. All five youth in the car - Arun, Isaac, Kishore, Nataraj and Vicky were grievously injured. The shopkeepers had a miraculous escape when they ran out of the way of the vehicle that was veering out of control.
A two-wheeler and onions in the shop were damaged due to the accident. The passers-by dialled 108 and sent two of the youth to Mettupalayam GH while the other three who were badly injured in the legs and head were sent quickly to Coimbatore GH for intensive care and treatment. The Karamadai police have registered a case and investigation is on.
