The parents of the infant who were unable to calm down their infant later found that the broken needle of the injection was still stuck in the baby's leg.

The couple Malarvizhi and Prabhakaran who were expecting a baby had gone to Mettupalayam GH to get Malarvizhi admitted for delivery on the August 20. She gave birth to a baby boy on August 21 and was asked to return for vaccination on August 31. The newborn was given two vaccine shots, one on the hand and the other on the leg by the nurse at GH.
Since the baby was crying long after the vaccine shot was administered, the parents enquired with the doctor at GH about the reason. They were reassured that all babies usually cry thus after vaccination and then were sent home. The baby reportedly had been uncomfortable and wailing all week even after returning home, and the parents also realised that there had been swelling of the leg where the vaccination had been done. But believing that it was due to the vaccination, the parents continued to pacify the baby.
On September 9, when the baby's grandmother Thenmozhi was massaging the baby thoroughly during his bath, the palm of her hand apparently scraped and bled while applying soap on one of the baby's leg. The parents who examined the baby were shocked to find a broken needle stuck in the baby's leg and immediately left to the Mettupalyam GH with relatives to complain to the Dean Ilanchezian (Operations).
