Coimbatore : Reiterating that demonetisation and GST are the primary causes for economic depression in the nation and unemployment in Tamil Nadu, CPM Central Committee Member G.Ramakrishnan noted that CITU would be holding a conference to discuss on the issues faced by industries at large, especially the distress faced by industries in Coimbatore region.
While addressing the press at the CPM party office in Gandhipuram, senior CPM leader G.Ramakrishnan said, "While Amit Shah claims that BJP has uplifted people's lives and calls for celebrating their party's 100th day victory, the reality seems different. The Deputy Chairman of Niti Ayog has announced that India is facing an economic depression like never before in the 70 years."
"Around, 3.5 lakhs of employees from automobile sector and 60,000 employees from diamond Industry in Gujarat have lost their jobs. Even the TN Minister of Industries has confirmed 5 lakh people have lost their jobs in Tamil Nadu. Industrial cities like Coimbatore, Tirupur Erode are suffering numerous hardships", noted the senior CPM leader.
He also added that, "As the buying power of the public has diminished, the industries have reduced production. The centre which promised to uplift the lives of people has put their lives in distress."
"Hence, it's important to debate and discuss on the alarming industrial scenario of the region with industrial experts and stakeholders. Veteran economist, Jayaranjan, Industrial associations like CODISSIA will be participating in the meeting to be held on September 13", said G. Ramakrishnan.
"CM's effort to visit countries for new investment proposals is commendable. However, the poor administration questions the implemention", he noted.
He also condemned the TN government's decision to shut down more than 3000 government schools with less than 20 students. He pointed that several students have joined in government schools in Kerala.
He also urged that both Tamil Nadu and Kerala governments must hold talks on storing water to full capacity at Siruvani reservoir which is the main source of drinking water for Coimbatore. He also assured that the Marxist party members in Kerala will do the needful in making it happen.
