The petitioners stated that the TASMAC shop proved to be public nuisance to the general public, women school and college students.
About 500 families reside in the Forest gate area in Nilgiris district. There is a famous Anjaneya temple which is worshipped by many including the Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, whenever he visits Ooty. A Co-operative Milk Society and Co-operative ration Shops are also located in the busy Forest gate area.
However, the said TASMAC shop which is operating out of an unauthorized building near the bus stop proved to be a menace as tipplers who congregate here, use the roads as public toilets and drink and litter in the open area posing health hazard to the public.
