Coimbatore : The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (Coimbatore Chapter) conducted a meeting today on "Road map to Digitization" at the Chamber towers.
The meeting was organised to create awareness among traders about digitization and to launch the initiative “Digi Vyapari Safal Vyapari” to motivate traders to get into the digital landscape.
Praveen Khandelwal, National General Secretary, Confederation of All India Traders, (CAIT) who was the chief guest speaking at the event said “ CAIT launched this initiative "Digi Vyapari Safal Vyapari" to promote acceptance of digital payments among traders across the country and linking them with e-commerce portals. It has partnered with HDFC Bank, MasterCard, Global Linker, a networking platform for SMEs, and the Common Service Centers (CSCs) of the Ministry of Electronics & IT for the digital initiative.

“This will benefit small merchants and traders even in the remotest corners of the country “he noted.
“There are seven crore traders across the country contributing about 45% of the GDP and getting these traders into a common e-commerce platform will benefit the traders immensely. With changing times, business models should also change and to compete with giants in E-commerce space, it becomes necessary for the small traders to get into the digital space", Praveen added.
Sumit Agarwal, Social Media Head, CAIT elaborated on how social media can be used to benefit businesses.
“The meaning of literacy has changed over the years and only digital literacy is considered as literacy in the current times. Most of trade, business and policy matters happen over twitter and the trading community cannot afford to sit laid back without using such social media platforms” he said
According to reliable statistics, nearly 53% of people decide their buying behaviour based on social media reviews and opinions from other users. This shows the power of social media which traders should make use of" noted Sumit.
Sameer Vakil, Co-founder & CEO, GlobalLinker made a presentation about how to create an E-commerce portal for small retailers.
He explained the steps for creating the e-commerce portal either by the trader or by taking assistance from student volunteers which this initiative has roped in.
"To bring in the next generation to the store it becomes necessary to address the issues which the young customers face in the old brick and mortar model. Retailers should give them ease and convenience of shopping at their convenient timing which is made possible by this initiative, free of cost to the trader except for the onetime fee of Rs 300 as registration fee" said Sameer Vakil.
Lakshmi Narayanaswami, President, ICCI, Coimbatore Chapter, Members of ICCI Coimbatore, representatives from other industrial and trade associations attended the event.
