Coimbatore: After a long search the Fire and Rescue personnel fished out the body of Ramkumar, from the Noyyal River from near Chithiraichavadi dam. Ramkumar was washed away during the Ganapathi idol immersion ceremony held on Wednesday last near Alanthurai.
Coimbatore: After a long drawn out search, the untiring efforts of the Fire and Rescue personnel did not go in vain, even as they fished out the body of Ramkumar from the Noyyal River from near Chithiraichavadi Dam. Ramkumar was washed away during the Ganapathi idol immersion ceremony held on Wednesday, near Alanthurai.

While Ramkumar’s body was retrieved, the search is still on to find out if his brother Manikandan too was washed away in the river during the immersion ceremony.
In what is considered to be one of the most tragic incidents during a festival, a devout Ramkumar who participated in the immersion of Ganapathi idols during the Visarjan ceremony was washed away due to strong currents in the Noyyal River. Fire service personnel who rushed to the spot launched a massive search for the youth but were unable to find his corpse immediately.
Ramkumar was part of the revelry of the immersion of a 4 ft statue of Lord Ganesha which was immersed in river Noyyal in Boluvampatti, near Alanthurai, on behalf of the residents of Viraliyur.
