Coimbatore : Torrential rains over the week increased the water inflow to Pillur dam, thus forcing a release of 15000 cubic feet of water into the Bhavani river. With reduced rainfall in the last two days, the outflow has dropped to 8000 cubic feet.
Until midnight of Thursday, 15,000 cubic feet of water was being released through all four sluices of Pillur dam, thus resulting to flooding in Bhavani river. With rains gradually decreasing in the catchment areas of Pillur, excess water is being released only through two sluices since Friday.
Around 6000 cubic feet of water is being used to produce electricity. Out of total reservoir capacity of 100 feet, the Pillur Dam is presently close to 97 feet.
