The Mela will highlight the importance of Water Conservation and Management as part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan on September 6 at Sri Lakshmi Kalyana Mandapam in Pongalur.
The Government of India has formed a separate ministry for Jal Shakti Abhiyan and the District Collector Dr. K S Palanisami is executing the program with special interest and focus on helping the society through Kudimaramathu, Construction of Farm Pond and Desilting of Water Bodies.
K Ramesh Kumar, Joint Director/Project Director, DRDA will narrate the developmental initiatives carried out at the district level. Karaiputhur A Natarajan, Member of Legislative Assembly, Palladam is to release a booklet on current status and the need for water conservation, distribution of Soil Health Card, Prime Minister Kisan Card and inputs to the beneficiaries. He will also explain the importance of water management in agriculture and allied sectors.
There are 500 to 600 farmers from Pongalur, Palladam, Tiruppur, Kangeyam, Vellakoil, Gudimangalam and Uthukuli blocks of Tirupur district who are expected to attend the event. With the water table depleting faster than anticipated, Dr. M Jawaharlal, the Director of Extension Education will explain various management techniques in water usage of crop cultivation.
With every drop of water vital for life, S Panneerselvam, Director, Water Technology Centre will emphasise the importance of water conservation and state-of-art-of technologies in present-day farming. S Manoharan, Joint Director of Agriculture will highlight the various schemes operated by the Department of Agriculture.
The scientists of TNAU, TANUVAS and developmental officers from District Rural Development Agency, Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Department of Agricultural Marketing, Farmers Producers Organization, Stakeholders, Entrepreneurs and Agricultural Input suppliers of Tirupur district are expected to participate in the Kisan Mela.
K S Suganthi, Assistant Director of Horticulture and R Rajendran, Assistant Engineer, E Raju, District Development Manager, NABARD, Tirupur and Dr. R Mathivanan, Professor and Head, VUTRC, Tirupur will elaborate on the importance of water management in agriculture. The function is to be coordinated by N Anandaraja, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Pongalur along with the District Administration of Tirupur.
