Coimbatore: Pillur dam has reached its maximum capacity of 97 feet for the third consecutive time this monsoon season, following which sluices have been opened to let out 10,000 cusecs of water in the lower streams of Bhavani river.

The heavy monsoon rains in the Western Ghats have resulted in copious inflow into the dam which led to the reservoir brimming at 97/100 feet.

As monsoon rains have intensified again after a brief lull, waters from the reservoirs including Attapadi, Avalanche, Upper Bhavani, Kundah, Mulli has been released to Pillur dam. Both the inflow and outflow has been maintained at 10,000 cusecs.

Consequently, the district administration has issued a warning to the people in low lying areas to move to safer places and not to venture into the flooded river.

The general public and the farmers are happy that the Pillur dam has filled up the third time this monsoon season.

The Bhavani Sagar dam is fast filling up due to the huge outflow from Pillur dam.
