The birthday of V.O.Chidambaram Pillar, one of the towering leaders of the Indian freedom movement is being celebrated across the nation today.
As a part of it, celebrations were organised at Coimbatore central prison where the leader was incarcerated during the British era...
V.O.Chidambaram Pillai, who had undergone imprisonment during India's freedom struggle was yoked to the oil press and forced to pull it by the British overlords. This place was later converted into a memorial hall in memory of the great leader who had sacrificed his life for the welfare of the nation.
Prison administrators, V.O.C's followers, public and politicians, took part in the event held at the central prison.

W Moses, President of All India Rajiv Gandhi Por Padai (Southern division), said that the sacrifice, courage and persistence of V.O.Chidambaram Pillai should be an inspiration for the youth of the country.
