Coimbatore: A man who had failed to comply with the bond of peace that he had signed which had promised that he would not get involved in any crimes in the city was arrested by the city police.

He was booked under 110 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and put behind bars at the Central Prison in Coimbatore.

The city police and the district administration have been making serious efforts to prevent crimes such as murder, robbery, kidnapping, drug and food trafficking in the city. Balaji Saravanan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore District had also begun initiating action against identified troublemakers in the city who had failed to comply with the bond of peace signed by them.

Meanwhile, Ravikumar, the Revenue Divisional Officer has sentenced Abi Habeeb Raguman (42), a resident of Ukkadam to two years rigorous imprisonment till July 15, 2021 for violating his promise and getting involved in smuggling of ration rice. Abi Habeeb Raguman has been previously booked in 30 different cases and charged twice under the Goondas Act.

Abi Habeeb Raguman had reportedly signed a bond of peace in the presence of Ravikumar, the Revenue Divisional Officer of Pollachi on July 19, that he would not indulge in any anti-social activities. However, he was caught red-handed by officials while trying to smuggle 1150 kg of ration rice on August 22.

This special action initiated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Coimbatore against trouble makers involved in a series of crimes has reportedly set an example for other Government officials to be spurred toward preventive action which is expected to reduce crime rate in the city.
