'Ganapathi Visarjan' when Ganesha's idols are immersed after processions across the city and Corporation Police Limit areas was held on Wednesday. As part of the celebrations, a 4 ft statue of Lord Ganesha was immersed in the Boluvampatti River Noyyal near Alandurai on behalf of the residents of Viraliyur. Tragically, a youth named Ramu who went to immerse the statue in the river Noyyal was washed away in the river.
The Fire Rescue and Operation Department were informed immediately and a search is on to recover the corpse from the Noyyal River.
