Coimbatore : Keeping in mind the safety and well-being of wild animals inside the Reserve Forest as well as for the public, members of the Siruvani Vizhudhugal along with the Police and Forest Departments have created an artificial pond for immersion of Vinayagar idols, next to the Siruvani Chinnaar, near the birthplace of Noyyal, here.
The pond was created adjacent to the river to help curb debris and plastic wastes from entering the mainstream. According to B Ramkumar, Coordinator of Siruvani Vizhudhugal, almost 200 idols from various places including Alandurai, Madhampatti, Iruttupallam and Dhombilipalayam are to be immersed at the pond this year.
“More than 200 idols were immersed at the mainstream last year, making it unclean. But the debris was removed in one week’s time. This year, since the water flow is higher than last year, debris will easily flow out into the mainstream if no intervention is made.
The river runs for 10 kms inside the Reserve Forest before entering the mainstream Noyyal in mainland. Hence, it is important that the wastes are removed,” he reiterated.
