Coimbatore: The West Zone IG inspected security arrangements ahead of the Vinayagar processions tomorrow in Mettupalayam.
Apart from surveillance cameras installed all across the city, over 1,000 police personnel have been deployed in providing security for the town. More than 500 statues are sanctified in Mettupalayam and its periphery, on behalf of Hindu outfits and public in the city. After three days of worship, the idols are taken for a procession and immersed in River Bhavani, Mettupalayam.

Meanwhile, various special arrangements have been made by the city police to avoid any mishaps. With Mettupalayam being a trouble-prone area and under terrorist attack alert, the police personnel deployed have maintained strict vigil in Mettupalayam.
Security arrangements are being carried out by a team led by the Western Zone IG Periaiah. Surveillance cameras have been fixed and vigilantly monitored throughout the city starting from today to prevent any violent incidents during the procession. Around 35 surveillance cameras are fixed in the areas around Mettupalayam-Ooty main road and in the area where the Vinayagar idols are to be immersed in the Bhavani River.
Also, arrangements are being made to set up a barrier fence in the areas where the immersion is to take place. Apart from this, watch towers have been set up at two locations in the city and police personnel with guns have been deployed to guard the procession from tall buildings.
Over 1000 policemen have been deployed to guard the procession that is scheduled to start from the Mettupalayam CDC Depot to the Bhavani river.
