Flyover between Uppilipalayam - Chinniyampalayam at a budget of Rs. 1000 crores: Minister SP Velumani

Coimbatore: Minister S.P. Velumani, on Saturday announced the construction of a flyover at a proposed budget of Rs.1,000 crore on the Avinashi road connecting Uppilipalayam to Chinniyampalayam (Airport).

At the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Special Grievance Camp held at Ganapathy Municipal Higher Secondary School here, Minister S.P. Velumani received 800 petitions from the public and distributed Rs. 5.03 crore worth of welfare assistance to 438 beneficiaries.

While addressing the media, the Minister said, "Coimbatore's much-awaited Metro Rail (survey being done by Chennai Metro Rail Corporation) will be implemented soon in a budget of Rs.1500 crores with world class quality. Under the smart city project, 1745 km long rainwater drainage system is being installed at a budget of Rs. 1652 crores. And, the first phase of Athikadavu-Avinashi has kick started in a budget of Rs. 225 crores."

He also apprised that, "Works have begun for the construction of a flyover between Uppilipalayam to Chinniyampalayam (Airport) in a budget of Rs.1000 crores."

Commenting on the long-pending Coimbatore international airport expansion, the Minister revealed that the process of acquisition of the ear-marked land of 627.89 acres is underway. Land acquisition works and paying of compensation to owners are ongoing at full swing. With the completion of the process, it will enable more passenger and cargo flights from and to Coimbatore. The garment industry in Tirupur and the automobile spare and motor parts industry in Coimbatore will largely benefit out of exports, without having to rely on Cochin or Bangalore. Thus, resulting in increased job opportunities."

The Minister for Muncipal Administration also noted that the first phase of Gandhipuram flyover has been opened for public use at a cost of Rs. 192 crores. Shortly, the ongoing second phase of the flyover will also be opened for public use at a budget of Rs. 194 crores, he said. 

He also briefed on the ongoing projects including Athupalam - Ukkadam bridge at a cost of Rs. 215 crore. Similarly, the bridge to be built in Kavundampalayam at an estimated cost of Rs. 66 crore. And, the 3.6 km long flyover in Ramanathapuram which is underway at a budget of Rs.253 crores.

The Minister also notified on the road relaying works carried between Pollachi to Eachanari at a budget of Rs. 414.90 crores. He added that the project is nearing completion.

"New Government Arts Colleges have been opened in Thondamuthur and Pollachi to promote the education of the under privileged students. New Primary Health Centers (PHC) have been established in Kurichi, Kuniyamuttur, Vadasithur, Idikarai and Semedu and standards of existing PHCs in Karadimadai, Thaliyur, Kalveerampalayam and Nallatipalayam have been enhanced. Similarly, several projects are being implemented in the Coimbatore district for welfare of the public" said Minister SP Velumani.
