New Education Policy: Elementary School Teachers' Federation protest against 'state census exams' for grades 3, 5 and 8

Coimbatore: Claiming that the New Education Policy would "severely affect" students in rural areas and alleging that the transition makes it mandatory for students to take 'state census exams' in grades 3, 5 and 8, the members of the Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers' Federation have been holding a series of demonstrations across Tamil Nadu.

They have also been urging that Tamil Nadu should keep up the promise of implementing only two-language formula.

In one such protest on Thursday here at South Zonal Office, President, Vinayagan reitrated that certain criterias in the New Education Policy would adversely affect the students in the rural areas.

He noted that admission to undergraduate courses in all government-funded universities and colleges will soon be through all-India entrance tests, which would affect college-going students, especially from rural areas.

The protestors alleged that the new education policy (NEP) transition makes it compulsory for students to take 'state census exams' in grades 3, 5 and 8. They urged that the centre should make necessary changes in the proposed education policy and ensure smooth transition.
