Coimbatore: The City police on Wednesday arrested a man who allegedly has been involved in various thefts in buses across Tamil Nadu. He was nabbed red-handed by the police, while he was travelling in a bus to Coimbatore to sell the stolen gold bars.

Last month, Abinay (41) a jewellery maker from Raja Street, here had assigned his employee Ravichandran (55) to Salem to get orders from jewelry shops. While he was returning from Salem, Ravichandran fell suspicious on some people travelling along with him and checked his baggage. He was left in shock, as a major portion of the jewelery had gone missing.
Following this, Ravichandran informed his owner about the missing jewelry. A complaint was lodged by Abinay at the Peelamedu Crime branch police. Based on the orders of Sumit Sharan, Commissioner of Police, a special team led by Inspector Vivekanandan commenced investigation on the theft.
The special team of Police retrieved the CCTV footage from the bus and found that a gang of thieves have committed the crime. Upon investigation, it was found that the gang was led by Malaisamy of Sivagangai district and they have been involved in many such bus robberies across TN. The gang have been distracting the passengers by tossing one rupee coin and later eloping with their valuables.
Based on the tip-off that the gang had converted the jewels robbed from the bus to gold bars and are bringing it back to Coimbatore to sell them, the special team of Police plotted a plan and nabbed Malaisamy and seized 928 grams of gold bars from him.
Further, it has been revealed that Malaisamy was accompanied by Srinivasapandian, Veerapandi, Balamurugan and Rajendran in the robbery. The police are on the lookout for his accomplices.
