Coimbatore : Ahead of Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations, District Collector, K. Rajamani convened a peace meeting with Islamic organisations on Wednesday.
Coimbatore : Ahead of Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations, District Collector, K. Rajamani convened a peace meeting with Islamic organisations on Wednesday.
The session was led by Ramadurai Murugan, Revenue District Officer and presided by L. Balaji Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police. Representatives from various Islamic organisations took part in the meeting.
The sole purpose of the meeting was aimed at discussing measures to be initiated to maintain peace and harmony during the occassion of Vinayagar Chaturthi and the days of immersing the idols.
The District administration has assured that steps are being taken to ensure peaceful conduct of the festivity and address the issues observed, last year.
All Islamic organisations and Jamaats have assured their 100% cooperation for peaceful conduct of Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations in the city.
At the closure of the meeting, the following suggestions were putforth:-
* To protect the water bodies from pollution during idol immersion, the Police department and District administration will closely monitor that idols made of chemical colours and Plaster of Paris will not be allowed.
*And, importantly traffic woes during processions will be dealt carefully to ensure smooth transit of vehicular movement.
* The idol immersion will be carried out only during day time.
*The police department has also requested the public to complain, if party members or coordinators demand money during the occassion.
* Throughout the festival of Vinayagar Chaturthi, all TASMAC shops will be ordered to close.
* City police will increase patrol and any non adherence of law and order will be dealt strictly, without bias.
* Apart from permitted locations, people should not keep idols at public places.
* The press and the media will be advised to be careful while reporting news. And, strictly not to entertain baseless information, as it could lead to unrest.
* Sensitive areas will be closely monitored by police. Additional security will be provided to such areas.
* A special squad will be deployed during procession and meetings to ensure people don't engage in uttering unwanted words or degrading statements that could hurt the sentiments of other religions.
* Steps will be taken to make sure shopkeepers are not threatened to shut their shops during procession.
* All shops and establishments along the route of the procession will be provided with enough protection.
* All the events of the festival should be taped.
The district police and the district administration have said that all the above demands will be thoroughly implemented and documented.
The District Collector has urged the people of the city to extend their fullest cooperation with the police department to ensure peaceful conduct of the festivity. And, requested the people to refrain from spreading false news and rumours that could disrupt the harmony of the city.
