Coimbatore: In a tragic road accident, a mother of two children riding on a two-wheeler met with a fatal accident in Karumathampatti and died on the spot. She was reportedly stuck behind the container lorry's back tyre.
Coimbatore: In a tragic road accident, a mother of two children riding on a two-wheeler met with a fatal accident in Karumathampatti and died on the spot. She was reportedly stuck behind the container lorry's back tyre.
Mohanapriya (38) had reportedly dropped her two children at school on her two-wheeler as part of a daily routine, and was returning to her workplace but rammed into a container lorry and got stuck behind the lorry's back tyre, and succumbed on the spot.
Mohanapriya is the wife of Karthikeyan, a resident of Karumathampatti and the couple own a hollow block manufacturing company on Annur road. As she was returning from school in Karumathampatti, a container lorry "TN 69 F 9827" which was ahead of her took a sudden left turn on the Karumathampatti-Avinashi service road. Mohanapriya, who was just behind the back tyre of the container lorry lost balance and got stuck in the back tyre and died on the spot.
Mohanapriya's relatives were inconsolable after seeing her corpse. The Karumathampatti police rushed to the spot and retrieved Mohanapriya's body and sent it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for postmortem.
Meanwhile, the Karumathampatti villagers have blamed the occurrence of the accident on negligent construction workers who were deployed in the reconstruction of the old bridge. They reportedly are in the habit of strewing construction materials on the roadside which can cause such accidents.
Anand Kumar, the Coordinator of People's Alliance against injustice in Karumathampatti opined, "The Karumathampatti bridge is narrow than any other bridge and due to the pressure the bridge seems to be giving way, and hence reconstruction work is being carried out. The construction workers deployed in the reconstruction of the old bridge at night leave the materials behind which are a hurdle for vehicles, resulting in accidents."
"Moreover, the Karumathampatti bridge area is only 45m. Similarly, the service road which has to be 8m across is only 6 meters in Karumathampatti. These narrow areas are very congested and lead to accidents. Moreover, using the bridge now can prove to be dangerous. Instead of having it repaired properly, wires are temporarily plugged in and work is being carried out. How safe can this be is the big question," he added.
