Coimbatore: A special court to deal with cases of domestic violence against women was inaugurated today at the Integrated Court Complex, in Coimbatore.
The District Principal Court Judge Sakthivel inaugurated the special court. Principal Additional Sessions Court Judge Gunasekaran, Chief Criminal Court Judge Ravi, District Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan, District Superindentent of Police Sujit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Balaji Saravanan, Perumal, several lawyers and public were also present at the inauguration.
The newly inaugurated court will deal with domestic violence against women like defaming them through words, molestation, cheating a woman in the name of marriage and violence against women. These cases were previously investigated at the Judicial Magistrate but will henceforth be shifted to the special court. 800 cases are pending in Coimbatore and 600 cases from the district have been shifted to the special court.
