Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani submitted a petition to Union Finance Minsiter Nirmala Sitharaman urging to introduce daily flight services from Coimbatore to Delhi in the morning hours and also a direct flight services to Dubai.
Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani submitted a petition to Union Finance Minsiter Nirmala Sitharaman urging to introduce daily flight services from Coimbatore to Delhi in the morning hours and also a direct flight services to Dubai.
In his petition the minister has stated that Coimbatore is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu after Chennai and the 16th largest urban agglomeration in India. The district is industrially developed and is one of the largest exporters of textiles, garments, hosiery, jewellery, wet grinder, poultry, machine tools and auto components to various parts of the nation.
"The Coimbatore Airport connects the Coimbatore region to various parts of the globe and many domestic destinations including Delhi are served. However there is a long felt demand from the business community that a daily flight service from Coimbatore to Delhi around 7.00 am would help enable easy and convenient daily trips to attend to their official business."
The minister also requested direct flights to Dubai to reduce the time and money wasted due to the circuitous route. He further urged the minister to extend the Mumbai - Bangalore Industrial Corridor by the Government of India up to Coimbatore.
