Coimbatore: Stones were pelted at two Government buses in the city as part of the ongoing protests statewide due to the vandalisation of Dr. B R Ambedkar's statue in Vedaranyam, Nagapattinam district.
Coimbatore: Ravanan, District Secretary of Tamil Puligal Katchi reportedly surrendered at the Saibaba Colony Police station for hurling stones on the two Government buses at the Saibaba Colony bus stand, in condemnation of the vandalisation of Ambedkar's statue in Vedaranyam.
On Monday morning, stones were pelted on two Government buses in the city as part of the ongoing statewide protests against vandalisation of Dr. B R Ambedkar's statue in Vedaranyam, Nagapattinam district.
The statue was vandalised amid clashes between two groups in Vedaranyam. The incident took place in front of the police personnel deployed in and around the area to maintain law and order.
People across Tamil Nadu have condemned the incident and members of Dalit organisations, the Communist party, Viduthalai Siruthaigal and other parties have announced a statewide protest condemning the vandalisation of Dr. Ambedkar's statue in Vedaranyam.
With regard to the ongoing protest against the vandalisation, stones were pelted on two Government buses plying in Coimbatore city which resulted in damage to the rear glass of the bus.
The stones used in the pelting were wraped in a paper which read that the Tamil Puligal Katchi condemns the vandalisation of Dr. Ambedkar's statue and demanded the arrest of Hindu extremists who are reported to be the reason behind this. The note also read that the extremists may only be able to vandalise the statue of Dr.Ambedkar but not his ideologies.
Police have been investigating the Tamil Puligal Katchi cadres with regard to the incident. It is to be noted that the incident in Coimbatore was a resonance of the vandalism in Vedaranyam.
