Coimbatore: City police arrested over 20 Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) cadres who protested near District Collectorate demanding immediate action against caste fanatics who had vandalised Ambedkar's statue in Vedaranyam.
Amidst a clash between two groups, Dr. Ambedkar's statue was vandalised and a police vehicle was set afire in Vedaranyam. Following this, residents of Vedaranyam staged a road roko demanding action against the caste fanatics who had vandalised Dr. Ambedkar's statue which the Tamil Nadu Government had brought from Salem.

Addressing the media, the Zonal Secretary, Susi Kalaiyarasan said, "Dr. Ambedkar is the one who framed the law for equal rights for women, eight working hours and abolishment of child labour among the oppressed people. While all other leaders' statues are present in Tamil Nadu, there is none of Dr. Ambedkar. The caste fanatics who vandalised the statue of Dr. Ambedkar should be arrested under the National Security Act," he added.

The VCK cadres also appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to install Dr. Ambedkar's statue in all the districts of Tamil Nadu.
