Nilgiris District Collector receives POSHAN Abhiyaan award

The Nilgiris: Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Saturday gave away the award for excelling in the POSHAN Abhiyaan scheme to Nilgiris District.

The Nilgiris: Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Saturday gave away the award for excelling in the POSHAN Abhiyaan scheme to Nilgiris District.

District Collector J. Innocent Divya received the award in an event held at New Delhi for the year 2018-19.

The State of Tamil Nadu on the whole received numerous awards for positive implementation of the scheme.

Dr. Saroja, Minister of Social Welfare, Secretary of Social Welfare Department Madhumathi, United Child Development Scheme Project Director M. Kavithara and Innocent Divya received the awards on behalf of the State.

A sum of Rs. 3.80 crore was also offered to the State as an incentive to implement the scheme even better.

According to sources, POSHAN Abhiyaan is a multi-ministerial convergence mission with the vision to ensure attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022.

The objective of POSHAN Abhiyaan is to reduce stunting in identified Districts of India with the highest malnutrition burden by improving utilisation of key Anganwadi Services and improving the quality of Anganwadi Services delivery. 

It aims to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) would be implementing POSHAN Abhiyaan in 315 Districts in first year, 235 Districts in second year and remaining districts will be covered in the third year.
