Surgeons from Coimbatore, Chennai, Salem and neighbouring states took part in the meeting.
According to research, one person dies every minute due to non-functioning of organs. Also, 420 persons registered for organ donation and students from various schools took part in the event.
Experts addressed the gathering on the benefits and the need for organ donation.
“It is to be noted that one person can save 23 lives through organ donation, and it has been reported that more than 80 % of people die from organ damage,” the doctor participants said.
“The number of organ donors in India is relatively less in Tamilnadu and so this awareness seminar is being held to increase the number of organ donors in Tamil Nadu” the organizers said.
