Coimbatore: In yet another sandalwood smuggling incident reported within the city limits a sandalwood tree has been axed off and smuggled from Corporation Magistrate's house in the city.

The incident assumed significance as the smugglers have tied up the security persons before they axed off the tree.

The smugglers threatened the security of the residence of Nandini Devi (50), corporation magistrate and wife of Rajendran residing at Ponnurangam Road, R.S Puram with knifepoint and axed off sandalwood with 10 cm in width and abducted it.

In spite of police arresting smugglers from Kattur police limit, Saibaba temple police limit, Racecourse police limit, Kuniamuthur police limit, R.S Puram police limit for sandalwood smuggling, the crime rate has not been checked so far.
A case has been registered with R.S Puram Police who are on the lookout for the miscreants.
