Coimbatore: Following IB warning of terrorist intrusion in Coimbatore, the city police has tightened security across the district and conducting intense combing operation at places of large public gathering like malls and hotels.
Coimbatore: Following IB warning of terrorist intrusion in Coimbatore, the city police has tightened security across the district and conducting intense combing operation at places of large public gathering like malls and hotels.
Around 2000 policemen under the direct supervision of Jayanth Murali, Addl Director General of Police, Law & Order are deployed for security. Around 25 additional check posts have been created to check all vehicles entering and exiting the city.
As part of the operation, intensive raids were carried out at 87 hotels in the city and malls on Friday night.
The guests staying in the hotel rooms were asked to show their ID proofs, and their baggages were thoroughly checked. The register maintained by the hotels of the guests list were also cross verified by the police.
Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan in a press meet on Friday had urged the public not to panic and that the police is well equipped to address the situation. He also warned the public to refrain from spreading baseless WhatsApp forwards and posting sensitive posts in Facebook that could trigger unrest.
