Coimbatore: As part of their CSR activity, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) donated a Tata Ace vehicle to 'No Food Waste', a city based NGO on Thursday.
Coimbatore: As part of their CSR activity, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) donated a Tata Ace vehicle to 'No Food Waste', a city based NGO on Thursday.
With a capacity to carry one ton of materials, the vehicle would facilitate the NGO to pick up excess food and deliver it to the needy in desired locations.
In a function held yesterday, R.Madhavan, Regional Director, AAI, Southern region handed over the vehicle to the NGO in the presence of R.Mahalingam, Airport Director, Coimbatore International airport.
Speaking on this R. Mahalingam said, "AAI has a centralised fund to carry out CSR activities through out the country. Projects are identified based on merit. We have also done other activities like supporting a school at Poonga Nagar, Coimbatore. This project in particular was very impressive and since we felt its a great service done by young people we proposed this project for approval. We are extremely happy to support for a noble cause."
Commenting on this, Padamanabhan Gopalan, Founder of the NGO stated "Till now, we have been using Omni vehicles to transport food. During wedding seasons, we would use to do multiple trips to collect the huge amount of left over food. With this vehicle donated by AAI, we would be able to collect larger amount of foods at one go."
He also added that the vehicle can carry one ton of food and also facilities like inbuilt shelves and vessels. "The vehicle will also be insulated to maintain food in warm condition. We have taken every step to adhere to food safety standards while transporting the left over food", he noted.
