As per IB reports, terrorists have reportedly planned an attack in Coimbatore, similar to the attacks on the churches in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, this year.
It is also reported that six terrorists from Sri Lanka and Pakistan have entered Tamil Nadu to execute these attacks. The IB has alerted the TN police that the attack is likely to be carried out in Coimbatore.
City Police are now on high alert, as the attack is said to be planned during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Even as the TN police are on strict vigil across the State, the Coimbatore city police have been conducting intensive surveillance and vehicle inspections since yesterday, in Coimbatore.
Security has been beefed up in public places like bus stops, railway stations, airports, Government offices, churches and temples.
The city police have also urged the public not to believe or spread false information and rumours, and to refrain from spreading baseless information through social media.
Especially, public are advised to use Whatsapp and Facebook discreetly and avoid posting hate or violence-provoking messages during such sensitive periods. The police have assured the public that they are well-equipped to thwart any conspiracy aimed against the public.
The Assistant Deputy General of Police, Law and Order has instructed the entire State Police to conduct storming operations tonight during which all officers and policemen on night rounds should check hotels and vehicles for explosives and weapons, and watch out for those booked under Motor Vehicles Act. All patrols are put on high alert and checking have been intensified.
The police have also been instructed to keep a look out for repeat offenders, thugs and anti-social activists, as well as to carry out preventive arrests.
