High alert in Coimbatore due to terrorist intrusion
Coimbatore : A high alert has been issued in Coimbatore late on Thursday following an intelligence input confirming that six LeT terrorists have intruded into Tamil Nadu and suspected to have been living in Coimbatore.
The alert, which has been confirmed by credible intelligence sources, warned that the a six-member group intruded into Tamil Nadu via Sri Lanka.
Of the six terrorists, one was a Pakistan national and the others were Muslims from Sri Lanka. The Pakistani was identified as Illyas Anwar.
The warning also states that the terrorists disguised themselves as Hindus by applying Vibudhi (ashes) or tilak smeared on their foreheads.
Following the alert, the police have beefed up security in the city. Special patrols were conducted in sensitive areas and all important public joints.
