Coimbatore: In spite of having a new building constructed for Government Arts College, Karamadai at the cost of Rs. 8 crores, the students have been forced to attend classes on a shift basis as the new campus lacks in basic amenities
Coimbatore: In spite of having a new building constructed for Government Arts College, Karamadai at the cost of Rs. 8 crores, the students have been forced to attend classes on a shift basis as the new campus lacks in basic amenities.
Government College of Arts and Science was inaugurated in the year 2016 for the benefit of poor students from Mettupalayam and surrounding areas.
As the College did not have a campus at that time, temporary arrangements were made to conduct the classes at the Government High School in Karamadai.
Student enrollment also suffered due to inadequate facilities and space constraint. There are currently over 300 students studying at this College.
In the meanwhile, 5.5 acres of land was allocated for constructing a college campus at Kuttaiyar Madeshwaran hill region near Karamadai at the cost of Rs. 8 crores, and the college building was inaugurated a good two months back.
When the students were expecting that the new campus will be functioning from this academic year they were in for a huge disappointment
Due to abysmal lack of infrastructure, including furniture, the students couldn’t attend classes on the new campus but forced to continue with the Government High school premises.
“The students are put in an unenviable situation. Due to the inadequate space in the school campus, the shift system has been introduced and students are attending morning and evening classes respectively" said one of the students.
"The newly constructed building is not in use because the authorities have neglected to provide necessary infrastructure including desks, tables and chairs for the College" the affected students allege.
The affected students have urged the district administration to take immediate measures to get all the amenities required for the new building for the benefit of the students who have been forced to attend classes in a cramped school campus till this date, despite a new building having been inaugurated a good two months back.
