Coimbatore: Following the arrest of P Chidambaram by the CBI late Wednesday night, the Congress party cadres across the nation have been protesting condemning the arrest as BJP's action of revenge against the vocal P Chidambaram.

The Coimbatore Congress cadres protested in front of the South Zonal Tahsildhar office. Ex-MLA, M N Kandasamy, the State Vice President of the party, Venus Mani, Ganapathy Sivakumar, District Treasurer Soundara Kumar and over 50 Congress cadres staged a protest and raised slogans against the BJP.

The police instructed the protesters to move to the sides of the road so as not to disrupt free traffic flow. This was followed by a argument between the Congress party members and the police. The police officials settled them down and then the protest continued.

While addressing the media, the ex-MLA M N Kandasamy said, "We expected this to happen. It shows the audacity of the BJP to arrest a person who is not even in the accused list of the case. This is a warning trigger about the next five years of rule by the BJP. P Chidambaram strongly condemned the Centre's decision to scrap Article 370. Hence, the BJP has fabricated this arrest as vengeance against him. This is a murder of democracy. The Congress will not deter due their actions. The party extends its full support to P Chidambaram."

The senior Congress leader, former Home Minister and two-time Finance Minister of India, P Chidambaram was arrested late night on Wednesday, hours after the Supreme Court had announced that the hearing of his petition seeking a stay on the Delhi High Court order dismissing his anticipatory bail petitions in the INX Media case of 2007 will be held on Friday.

A case has been filed against P Chidambaram and his son Karthik for illegal cash transactions relating to a 2007 decision for foreign investment in a media company to the tune of 305 crores and 26 percent downstream investment in a subsidiary.
