Coimbatore: The 12th edition of Asia’s largest and India’s only wildlife quiz is to witness the participation of 7000 students hailing from seven countries to clinch the title in the finals to be held at Delhi in November.
Coimbatore: The 12th edition of Asia’s largest and India’s only wildlife quiz is to witness the participation of 7000 students hailing from seven countries to clinch the title in the finals to be held at Delhi in November.
Organised by the World Wide Fund for nature (WWF) and endorsed by the Central Board of Secondary seduction (CBSE), the quiz would be hosting students of 1100 schools from the Asia Pacific region, United Kingdom, South America, Nepal and Bhutan.
The quiz is being supported by various ministries and Government organisations such Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Vigyan Prasar, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Jawahar Navodaya schools and many more partners.
“The biggest highlight of the Quiz is certificates signed by Sir David Attenborough for all participants.
The state/city level winners from Chennai will compete in Delhi in November 2019 for the title of the Winners of Wild Wisdom Quiz 2019,” said a statement from WWF.
Talking about the quiz, Radhika Suri, Director of Environment Education at WWF claimed that such programmes would help direct the interest of students towards biodiversity on the whole.
“These small interactive steps are essential to build a connection between children and the surrounding environment for a better tomorrow,” she said.
“The wild wisdom quiz has enabled many students to know about wildlife and have raised their curiosity to find out more about our rich and varied natural heritage. Teachers and students of Tamil Nadu schools have wholeheartedly come forward to participate in the quiz since the last eleven years,” said S. Saravanan, Coordinator of Environment Education at WWF-India.
Notably, 40 lakh individuals have so far participated in the earlier editions of the competition that was kick-started in 2008.
Themed at Exploring our Planet, it is based on ‘Our Planet', a collaborative documentary between Netflix and WWF. It is expected to test students on their knowledge of the planet’s most diverse biomes and precious species.
Participating students would get free access to the WWF One Planet Academy- an online digital environmental resource with quiz, projects and plethora of information on our planet according to the statement.
The Quiz is broken up into 3 categories - Junior School Category (Class 3- 5), Middle School Category (Class 6-8) and an online version for students in classes 9-12.
