Vasanth Kumar, a native of Ottanchathiram, Dindigul district and a Red Taxi driver in Coimbatore was on duty last night. Two passengers had booked the taxi for a trip to Madurai and hence they embarked on their journey from Singanallur. When the car was nearing Sulur, the passengers stabbed Vasanth Kumar, pushed him out of the car and then fled with the taxi. Passers-by rushed Vasanth Kumar to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
Upon information, the Sulur police alerted the Tirupur police following which vehicle checks were carried out at various points and junctions. Thereafter, the Police caught Thirumurugan but his accomplice Kongusamy escaped the police dragnet. It is reported that both culprits hail from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A police squad has been formed to nab Kongusamy.
Shocked taxi drivers in the city have demanded that the police ought to take appropriate action immediately to protect drivers in the city.
