Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a son hammered his father to death while defending his mentally disturbed mother, at their home in Thudiyalur police limits in Coimbatore.
Govindarajan (55), a resident of Subramaniyampalayam and his wife who has been mentally disturbed for the past few years were being taken care of by their son, Mohan Kumar (29).
Govindarajan reportedly hit his wife over an issue of consuming pills. In an attempt to prevent his father from hurting his mother, Mohan Kumar intervened but a quarrel broke out between son and father. In a fit of rage, Mohan Kumar hit his father in the head, leg and other parts of the body with a hammer. Govindarajan had reportedly succumbed to his grievous injuries on the spot, though a visibly perplexed Mohan Kumar rushed his father to the Coimbatore Government Hospital to save him. But the doctors declared Govindarajan as brought dead.
The Thudiyalur police were informed of the tragic altercation between son and father by Mohan Kumar himself, after the hospital had declared Govindarajan dead. Mohan Kumar surrendered himself to the police after narrating the entire incident. A thorough investigation by the police is underway.
