Coimbatore: Even as the tragic death of a 27-year-old driver by elephant was lingering around the people of the Thadagam Valley, the same elephant had attacked again and killed another middle aged man on the same day on Monday.

This time around, the killing had taken place in Thoppampatti Village in an open area around 8.30 pm. The deceased Prem Karthi was drinking alcohol along with Vignesh at Ganapathy Garden in Thoppampatti village, when the elephant was moving in the area.
The elephant had attacked both men leaving Prem Karthi seriously injured while Vignesh had luckily escaped. Though Prem Karthi was immediately rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, he was pronounced “brought dead” by doctors.
This is the second attack in 24 hours in the same area, reportedly by the same elephant. Notably, the animal had killed M. Ganeshan from Pannimadai around midnight on Sunday. His family was given an interim compensation of Rs. 50,000 by the department.
With the elephant carrying out attacks on continuous days, people have requested to chase the animal away from human habitations.
However, with limited torch light and safety equipment, field staff of the forest department are finding it difficult to keep straying wild animals at bay.
Meanwhile, they have requested public to make use of the toll free number - 180042545456, in case of elephant emergencies and other wildlife related issues.
