CCMC has signed an agreement with the Suez Corporation for giving them rights for drinking water supply in the district. This decision was protested by various organizations in Coimbatore. The police department had arrested a person for posting unverified views against Suez agreement. In protest of this arrest that curb freedom of expression and the Suez agreement, Valibar Sangam has organised a protest by taking a selfie and posting it on Facebook to condemn against the Suez agreement.
While addressing the press State Secretary S. Bala said, "We strongly condemn the Suez agreement and in protest we will be posting selfies with hoardings that condemn the Suez Corporation. Photograph is a powerful medium, so on this Photography Day 25,000 of our members will be posting a selfie in protest of Suez on Facebook."
He further added saying, "the police department have arrested people for distributing pamphlet, lighting candles and they also threaten when tried to voice against the new National Education Policy. He strongly condemned making a business out of drinking water and accused that prosperity does not come from painting the bridges green and rather by safeguarding nature.
He said Valibar Sangam will never accept the arresting of people for sharing their opinions and expressed solidarity with Abdul Razaq who was arrested for it. Bala said that these arrests will not deter their protests and warned of protests in a bigger way if the agreement is not withdrawn.
