Coimbatore: Since videos and memes are more likely to strike a chord with the public, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has plans to capitalise on that to create awareness about the importance of source segregation among the public.
CCMC is going to organise a contest in September for Coimbatoreans to create videos and memes based on solid waste management including source segregation.
The main purpose of this contest is to spread awareness among the people on the need to do source segregation.
National Green Tribunal's Regional Monitoring Committee for Solid Waste Management, Southern Wing Chairman Justice P Jothimani during his visit to Coimbatore few days back conducted a meeting with various stake holders. He had directed the City Corporation to conduct mass propaganda on the importance of source segregation continuously for a period of one month. The committee also recommended to involve students and self-help groups for the propaganda.
Meanwhile, the upcoming contest is to encourage public on source segregation of waste which will eventually help to reduce the amount of waste dumped in Vellalore dump yard.
