Tirupur: A case has been filed against five members including a Vishva Hindu Parishad member for attacking a shopkeeper and extorting money to celebrate Krishna Jayanthi.

To mark Krishna Jayanthi which is celebrated across the country on September 23, Vishva Hindu Parishad members usually celebrate the festival by putting up a Krishna statue in Muthalipalayam SIDCO in Tirupur. The group has also been collecting donations for the Krishna Jayanthi celebrations.
A five-member gang approached Siva who owned an electrical shop in the area for donations. The members refused the Rs.300 donation made by Siva and attacked him asking for Rs.1000. The entire incident was recorded by the CCTV cameras in the shop.

Thereafter, Siva armed with the CCTC footage lodged a complaint with the Uthukkuli Police Station in Tirupur against the five including the Vishva Hindu Parishad member for attacking him. The police have registered the case and investigations are on.
