Coimbatore : In a tragic incident, a driver who was returning home around midnight was killed by a wild elephant at Pannimadai near Thudiyalur here today.
Coimbatore : In a tragic incident, a driver who was returning home around midnight was killed by a wild elephant at Pannimadai near Thudiyalur here today.
The deceased M. Ganeshan aged around 29, was a resident of Sanjeevi Nagar in Pannimadai and was working as a driver. He was returning home from work when the tusker that was lurking in the bushes attacked him.
He was thrown around and sustained injuries in his leg, rib cage and head and was rescued by forest personnel including Anti-Poaching Watchers and members of Rapid Response Team.
They had called in an ambulance and sent him to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
The elephant was later chased inside forest by APWs and RRT personnel using sirens and crackers.
