Drug peddler arrested; creates WhatsApp group to sell drugs to College students

Coimbatore: The city police on Saturday arrested Malaisamy (33) for selling cannabis to college students in the city. Upon investigation he revealed that he had formed a WhatsApp group to target college students.

Coimbatore: The city police on Saturday arrested Malaisamy (33) for selling cannabis to college students in the city. Upon investigation he revealed that he had formed a WhatsApp group to target college students. 

In a bid to annihilate drug usage in the city, the city police have been working tirelessly to nab drug peddlers who ruin the lives of college students by selling banned drug products like cannabis, marijuana etc. 

Based on the orders of City Police Commissioner, Sumit Saran and Deputy Commissioner L. Balaji Saravanan, a special team was formed to monitor drug peddlers who often meander nearby colleges to lure students. 

In one such drive against drug peddlers, the special team of Police along with Race Course police nabbed a prime drug peddler who has been selling cannabis to college students by forming a WhatsApp group.

According to police reports, the accused is identified as Malaisamy (33), a resident of Thummakundu East zone, Andipatti, Theni District. He has been allegedly selling cannabis in an organised way to college students through a WhatsApp group.

The team including Sub Inspector Kandasamy, Inspector Sakthivel and Sub Inspector Rajinikanth of Race Course police station arrested the accused while he was returning from Theni to Coimbatore. 

The police confiscated 1kg of cannabis and Rs 2000 cash from him. Further investigations revealed that Malaisamy had procured cannabis from Andhra Pradesh.

The accused, Malaisamy was produced in the Court and remanded.
