CM Edapadi K Palanisamy on Wednesday flagged off 500 new buses in Chennai purchased at a cost of ₹154 crore for different transport corporations in the state.
Out of which, 235 buses were allotted to Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai. The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) got 118 buses, while TNSTC got 147 buses, out of which 60 were for the Salem division, 16 for Coimbatore, me25 for Kumbakonam, 14 for Tirunelveli, 18 for Villupuram and 14 for Madurai.
Menawhile, the 16 buses allotted for Coimbatore division was flagged off today by Minister S.P. Velumani. Out of the 16 buses, three will be allotted to the Nilgiris district.
The new buses has several user-friendly features like low-lying foot boards, wider seats and automatic doors. The new buses which are built as per the All India motor vehicle quality control (AIS-052-ARAI) design and approval for bus body will replace the old ones.
In the two and half years, 4381 new buses have been introduced at a cost of ₹1,314 crore, said the release.
Out of which, Coimbatore has been allotted with 476 buses.
