Coimbatore : A meeting to discuss the increased Corporation taxes was held at the CPM district headquarters here on Saturday.
During the meeting, the representatives from DMK, CPM, MDMK, Congress and other parties condemned against the surge in taxes leived by the Corporation. They demanded the withdrawal of increase in house tax by 50% and property tax for commercial building by 100%.
They alleged that the increase in tax is exorbitantly high like never before in 150 years. They questioned as to why no one representing the public was included during the discussion sessions to increase taxes.
As part of the discussion, they also urged the Corporation to withdraw their agreement of handing over the water distribution rights to a foreign company called Suez. They also condemned the Corporation for arresting a public, who opined against the Suez agreement.
They further demanded that a meeting with the all-party members and housing association members should be held before the end of this month.
It was proposed to organise a meeting with small scale and large scale industries' association members during the first week of September.
DMK District Secretary and Singanallur MLA N. Karthik, DMK Speaker Nachimuthu, INC's Ganapathy Sivakumar, MDMK District Secretary R.R. Mohan Kumar, CPIM District Secretary V. Ramamoorthy, CPI District Secretary V.S Sundaram, Ex MLA CPI State Treasurer M. Arumugam, Devaraj, Sivagami, Kongunadu Makkal Thesiya Katchi Secretary Dhanapal, Radhakrishnan, Ramesh, Vadivel, DPDK Administrator Jeevanandam, Aam Admi party supporter Antony Charles and others were present.
