Coimbatore : Water level at the Siruvani Reservoir in Palakkad continued to hover around 40 feet as rains reduced in the catchment area of the reservoir.
The water level that stood at 41 feet a week ago went on to rise and reached upto less than two feet of its total capacity of 49 feet.
While speculations arose claiming an overflow of water at the dam, sources confirmed that the dam did not reach its full capacity despite ample rain in the ghat region.
The reservoir that feeds Coimbatore was low to dangerous levels a month ago and was fed with surplus rain water during the monsoon soon. The dam level reduced following a decline in rainfall in the area and was around 40 feet.
With rains expected to pour in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the reservoir level is expected to see a rise and could overflow if continuous heavy rain is recorded in the region.
